Raising a kid on your own isn’t easy - even if you’re a celebrity. But as these moms prove, it’s possible to raise children single-handedly, sustain a successful career - and still be fabulous!
Katie Holmes
Katie Holmes split with Tom Cruise in 2012, filing divorce papers on June 29th, following five and a half years of marriage together. The two share custody of one lovely little girl, six-year-old Suri.
The former couple remain committed to co-parenting, and released the following statement:
“We are committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter Suri’s best interests. We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other’s commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other’s roles as parents.”
We love how Katie Holmes has evolved, as an actress and mother, and can't wait to see her first post-split project, a movie she's co-written about a single mother, titled Molly.
Charlize Theron
Charlize Theron has become a mom of one at the age of 36. She adopted a baby boy named Jackson, according to a statement released to People:
"She has previously spoken out about not feeling the need to tie the knot. Marriage, she said last year, was 'never something that was important [to me].'"
Liv Tyler
Liv Tyler, the 33-year-old actress and mom to 7-year-old Milo William, split from British musician Royston Langdon in 2008 after five years together. (Liv and Milo have rockstar grandpa Steven Tyler to keep them entertained!)
Elizabeth Hurley
It's no surprise Elizabeth Hurley raised son Damian Charles, 8, as a single mom for the first few years of his life -- his father, Steve Bing, denied paternity while she was pregnant (a DNA test later confirmed he was the dad).
The English actress and model started dating married Indian textile heir Arun Nayar in 2007 and later married him, but the pair split in December 2010. She’s now married to Australian cricketer Shane Warne, but Damian will always be her No. 1 guy. Warne brought his son Jackson, 11, and daughters Brooke, 13, and Summer, 9, to be part of the new family.
